Best in Show I found this old firetruck in the Kensington Car Show. I love the bright red color of the truck against the bright blue sky. And the chrome surfaces show the reflections of the sky and environment around it. Kensington Volunteers Oil 16 x 20 $2,000 Karen Merkin | Second Place These three boats were docked in a large pond in Kennebunkport, Maine. I named them "Lonesome Boats" because they were alone and looked lonely in the pond. Lonesome Boats Digital Painting 24x18 $450 Susan Breen | Third Place Study of blue mixed with orange and white as a cityscape. Done entirely with a brayer. Bluescape Acrylic on Canvas 18 x 24 $500 Marcia Conrad |

Honorable Mention As a child I thought these flowers were called Glad to Know Yas. Glad to Know Yas Watercolor 16 x 24 $400 Noreen Brunini | Honorable Mention The theme got me thinking about the color blue in Nature, it is not common. In fact there are no blue birds! That is there are no birds that have blue pigment, rather they have feathers constructed to give off the color; the blue color is structural. Regardless the result can be spectacular. Tri-Colored Heron Photograph 16 x 20 $180 Stanley Bysshe | Honorable Mention Fluff & Glory 18 x 24 $395 Sheila Huyett |
Honorable Mention I love to fold origami cranes, which symbolize good health and good luck. I also love to paint them. My focus is how light and shadow affect color. If I can correctly portray the abstract elements of shapes, colors, and values, the object will appear. Red Crane on Blue Dish Oil on Board 6 x 8 $200 Amy Mann | This table-scape was what remained of the "kid's table" from my Thanksgiving celebration, but it could just as easily serve as a Christmas or 4th of July table setting. As a realist painter, I enjoy creating areas of quiet tension between what is barely stated in a painting versus more finished areas (most evident in the pattern of the table which leads your eye in an arc across the painting). American Holiday Oil on Linen Panel 12 x 16 $1,920 Suzanne Lago Arthur | In honor of Memorial Day, I began this series of Patriotic Gardens. It is a reminder that beauty surrounds us even when the skies are grey or blue. It is a mixed media painting of ink, watercolor pencils and acrylic on watercolor paper. Patriotic Garden #1 Mixed Media 8 x 10 $275 Michelle Baker |
She came to me in the dead of night, this angel of calm to sooth not fright. She makes her presence known by floating onto my page. This small artwork came to me without planning. She just appeared as angels do. Blue Angel Ink 8x10 $350 Michelle Baker | Puffy Clouds Acrylic 24 x 18 $475 Betty Baumgartner | The Morning Awakes Acrylic 12 x 4 $175 Betty Baumgartner |

The beautiful tea roses with a slight blush of pink in the middle are called mythos. The red background seemed to be the perfect accent to highlight these roses. Mythos Oil on Panel 8 x 10 $350 Jill Brabant | More blue and white china from my collection. I love to focus on the flowers and make them the star of the composition by not including the whole vase in a painting. Hydrangea and Roses Oil on Panel 9 x 12 $395 Jill Brabant | Blue and white china and roses make a beautiful combination. This was painting from life for the 30-day Strada Easel Challenge. Teacup with Roses Oil on Panel 8 x 10 $350 Jill Brabant |
One of my favorite scenes in Venice. It's always an inspiration to me. Gondolas at Dusk Digital Painting 20x16 $450 Susan Breen | This is a painting of a true master who was part of the hunt at one of the Christmas parades in Middleburg. Master on a Horse Digital Painting 16x20 $400 Susan Breen | Waiting for the ferry to Virginia and home on a peaceful June evening...I loved painting the calm twilight blues and soft sunset colors. The memory of that night on the river and the quiet process of painting was taking me home yet again with each contemplative layer of paint. At Peace on the Potomac Oil on Linen Panel 12x24 $685 Cynthia Bridgman |
Wandering through my favorite garden in Paris, it always pays to look up! The red flowers in the white urn against the brilliant blue sky was beautiful. And interestingly, the colors of France's flag are also blue, white and red! Postcard from Paris Jardin du Luxembourg Oil on Linen Panel 8 x 8 $175 Cynthia Bridgman | Challenge to do an artwork in varying shades of red. Seeing Red Watercolor 11 x 11 $300 Noreen Brunini | As a child I thought these flowers were called Glad to Know Yas. Glad to Know Yas Watercolor 16 x 24 $400 Noreen Brunini |

I'm never at a loss for a painting subject with dozens of chickens roaming the yard and gardens- curious creatures, they are. Still Life with Salami and Cheese Oil 24 x 30 $1500 Sage Chandler | Our chickens are always in to some kind of shenanigans, and rooster never fails to alert that he's king of the antics. Acrylic depiction of Sanderlings migrating through Cape Hatteras area in the spring. Done with brayer and bush. Sanderlings run in flocks along the edge of the water looking for small insects or crabs. Wave Runners Acrylic on Canvas 18 x24 $400 Marcia Conrad | Study of simultaneous contrast of red and blue broken by white and/or black. Inspired by my orchid collection, this piece is done solely with a palette knife. Blue on Red Acrylic with Knife 18 x 24 $500 Marcia Conrad | The overlapping, organic contours in my Floating Forms paintings evoke multitudes – stones, olives, grapes, etc. I apply fluid acrylic paint with printmaking brayers rather than paintbrushes to produce a faceted, jewel-like quality that is backlit by the paper. I'm interested in the layering of positive shapes and these web-like negative spaces. Floating Forms 35 Acrylic on Paper on Cradled Wood Panel 14 x 11 x 2 $300 Andrea Cybyk |

This painting depicts a summer morning on the lake. Calm Morning on the Lake Acrylic 12 x 16 $195 Nadya Gordon | Sailboat Acrylic 12 x 16 $195 Nadya Gordon | Entering the world of abstraction but remaining true to my love of landscapes, this endeavor captures red, white and blue in non-traditional ways. Several ancient cultures, including the Egyptians and Chinese, practiced chromotherapy or the use of colors and sometimes light to heal. Chromotherapy is viewed as holistic improving health and well-being. And after all, isn't that what art does? Fire Mountain Acrylic Mixed Media 20 x 24 x 1 $350 Susan Gring |
Walking from the Phillips Gallery, I was charmed by this stately home with a red door. In America, a red door holds historical significance to mean people are welcome at homes with red doors. Travelers were welcome to rest and have a meal, and during the Civil War in the Underground Railroad, runaway slaves would also see a red door as a sign of safe house. Off the Beaten Track in DC Acrylic 12 x 16 x 1 $275 Susan Gring | It’s so inspiring to go to a farmer’s market and see all the displays of produce. I love the vibrant colors and shapes of the vegetables up against the patterns of the tablecloths and the signs. Hot Peppers at the Market Oil 12 x 12 $325 Melinda Harleman | It’s so inspiring to go to a farmer’s market and see all the displays of produce. This piece is an homage to my Azorean heritage: The Azores are full of black lava - I took the sunsets on the lava as a way to explore the tones of red that can emerge when reflected against the darkest of dark. This mixed media uses discarded fire pit materials, as a specific and deliberate note to the lava of the Azores. Lava Gouche and Reclaimed Fire Pit Mat (Ceramic) on Canvas 11x14 $75 Sarah Hengemuhle | This piece is an homage to my Azorean heritage: The striking blue of the water of the Azores inspired this glass an acrylic piece. The deep and complex blues are full of refraction and light; this piece explores another way to look at liquid merging rigidity and motion. Sea Acrylic, Oil, Gouache, Glass on Wood Board 24x25 $275 Sarah Hengemuhle | Found this dahlia at a botanical garden in Boothbay, Maine. This will be one of a series of dahlia paintings! Miss Dahlia Oil 15 x 30 $900 Lorrie Herman |
Another spectacular waterfall area we saw on our trip to Iceland was Godafoss. The fall run cliff was like a stone sculpture bass relief with colorful shrubs on top and blue glacier water flowing. This is a section of the run. I like the abstract quality of it. Godafoss Oil 18 x 36 $1100 Lorrie Herman | As a painter in the American Tonalist tradition, I try in my work to suggest the feeling or mood of a place. This painting from my imagination is a traditional Tonalist nocturne, featuring a blue-black sky with clouds illuminated by a full moon. Blue Midnight Oil on Canvas 18 x 24 $1400 Laura Hopkins | This Tonalist landscape painting is inspired by the work of historic Tonalist George Inness and contemporary Tonalist Dennis Sheehan. Seashells are neutral in color naturally, so why not make them colorful. Then I added texture to reflect the rough surface of the shells. Seashells by the Sea Acrylic Mixed Media 36 x 30 $750 Ligia Inra |

Sixty-eight is a tribute to Jasper Johns who impacted modern art, through his varying interpretations of the American flag. The chosen title is a reference to the number of years between John’s 1954 Flag and my 2022 tribute piece. In furtherance of this tribute, I made Sixty-eight utilizing the same artistic process of encaustic painting as did Johns in many of his works. Captured at the “Christmas in Middleburg” parade in 2022, this photo lends itself well to the “Red, White, & Blue” theme. The huntsman’s bright red jacket pops in the photos of him mounted on his bright white horse. It had rained that morning and was still mostly overcast during the parade, which added a blue undertone to the shadows. Release the Hounds Photography 10 x 15 $450 Christopher Zeigler | Captured at the “Christmas in Middleburg” parade in 2022, this photo captures the moment the Master of Foxhounds took center stage at the parade after calling all of the foxhounds back in.
