Del Vacchio, Jaclyn-Conclusion Honorable Mention “Conclusion” is a linocut, hand printed in black ink, with a spot blue ink accent, on rice paper. “Conclusion” developed from a previous piece, “Observance”, which was a one-color linocut. The piece was inspired by the rise and fall in tides and it depicts the shift from isolation progressing into resolve. The print style includes different levels of “noise” as an artistic element. Bridgman, Cindy-It Stood the Test of Time Buffeted by the wind in the Outer Banks, the Oregon Inlet Life-Saving Station still stands. Bysshe, Stanley-Late Bloomer While photographing songbirds in a field of Sunflowers I noticed this late bloomer. Actually, my first thought was that it looked like a periscope! Using a shallow depth of field, I was able to isolate the budding Sunflower from the rest of the field. While I was photographing balloons that were being inflated, I saw one taking off just behind the area I was photographing. I just had to wait for the balloon to fill the empty blue sky in the image. Custer, Sheena-Heavy Fog It was early morning and the sun was not fully risen. The fog was heavy but you could tell it would lift. The lone tree off to the left seemed to have a shield around it. Del Vacchio, Jaclyn-Observance “Observance” is a linocut, hand printed in black ink on rice paper. The piece started as a sketch which grew to explore the feelings of unresolved emotions while searching for clarity. “Observance” aims to illustrate stillness while evoking rhythmic movement. It presents the contrast of each - while existing in the same space. This piece is 12” x 18” and was created in January 2023. Ferster, BIll-W.E.B. Circles Scholar and black rights activist W.E.B. Du Bois presented a series of graphs for an exhibit at the 1900 Paris World Fair. The graphs are remarkable early examples of data visualization, using bold colors and geometrical design that predates the work of non-objective artists such as the Russian Supremacists and the Bauhaus by decades. Mann, Jane-Primordial Limited edition archival print of photomontage. One layer was taken at a wastewater pond in a gravel pit near Leesburg; the second is a photo of an abstract installation. By layering the two in Photoshop, the colors dramatically changed. The sun and the scorching colors made me think of the earth at its beginning and possibly of its future. Montis-Young Vixen- Oil This young vixen frequently visits my yard. She sits at the top of the hill in the shadows and watches us. Her eyes are the focal point in this painting. I use the "rule of thirds" in my paintings and placed the eyes on a horizontal and vertical intersecting 3rd. Mumdumbai, Sangeetha-Sunset at the Dunes The breathtaking play of light and shadows at sunset is the inspiration for this painting. The sunlit bush on the right is the star. All the other elements like the shadows of the bushes, the delicate clouds, the log of driftwood and the color variations in the sky give the viewer a field to explore while keeping the eye in the painting. The direction and placement of these elements brings the attention back to the focal point.
